Richard Tuttle interviewed during the installation of The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860–1989.
Drawing on Asian aesthetics of Minimalism and the philosophies of Zen Buddhism, artist Richard Tuttle strives for the “perfect balance between imminence and transcendence” in his art. Of his white octagons, he says, “The humbleness of these is actually balanced by the anything-but-humble ambition to create a new form.”
