A: Yes. The cost of operating a world-class museum is enormous; private donations play a critical role in keeping the museum's doors open year after year.
Q: How are individual donations used?
A: Individual donations become part of a fund that supports the museum’s annual operating budget. Every department at the museum—curatorial and maintenance, exhibition design and conservation, and education and operations—depends on operating funds for everything from covering the cost of art materials for award-winning children's programs to providing lighting and climate control in the galleries.
Q: Is my gift tax-deductible?
A: Yes. Donations to the museum’s annual operating fund are fully tax-deductible within the limits of the law.
Q: Will I receive any benefits in exchange for my gift?
A: No. Individual donations, which become part of the museum’s annual operating fund, are straightforward charitable contributions. No goods, services, or membership benefits are provided in exchange for these gifts.

A: While you can request that your individual contribution be used for a particular project, we ask that you consider making an unrestricted gift. This allows the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum to put your gift to work where it is most needed.
Q: Can I make a donation to the museum in honor or memory of a loved one?
A: Yes. The museum will mail an acknowledgment of your gift to you, and a notification to the person honored by your gift (or to the family of a person memorialized by your gift). Please include a note describing whom the gift honors or commemorates, and the name and address of the person to be notified.

A: The donation of individual works of art is a crucial way for the Guggenheim's art collection to continue to grow. Our permanent collections include gifts of art received over the past 50 years, beginning with Solomon R. Guggenheim's founding collection gift. More recently, the generosity of collectors and artists has allowed the museum to acquire masterworks by Louise Bourgeois, Roy Lichtenstein, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol, and many others. Our curatorial staff gives careful consideration to gifts of art before we are able to accept them and all gifts of art must be approved by the Board of Trustees.
