Additional Holiday Hours from May 23 - May 28 Offered to Meet Public Demand to View Retrospective of Widely Acclaimed Chinese Artist
(NEW YORK, NY – May 1, 2008) – To accommodate the overwhelming public response to its current exhibition Cai Guo-Qiang: I Want to Believe,
the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum will remain open an additional two
hours each day during the show’s final week and throughout the Memorial
Day holiday weekend from Friday, May 23 to Wednesday, May 28. The
extended hours will be 10:00 AM until 7:45 PM.
The supplemented evening hours for the exhibition’s final six days
offer those in New York a last chance to witness this awe-inspiring
installation before it travels to the National Art Museum of China in
Beijing during the Olympic Games in August. Families are encouraged to
take advantage of this special opportunity, as children and adults
alike have responded with great enthusiasm to Cai Guo Qiang’s
distinctive visual and conceptual language expressed through this
dynamic exhibition. Some of the favorite works in the exhibition
include:
- Inopportune: Stage One (2004), the site-specific
intervention comprised of nine real cars pierced with blinking lights
suspended above and cascading down Frank Lloyd Wright’s rotunda;
- An Arbitrary History: River (2001), a installation in which visitors are invited to board a raft and float along a serpentine riverbed;
-Head On (2006), an installation of 99 life-size wolves charging up the ramps that delight and provoke viewers of all ages.
