Barbara Slifka Elected Trustee of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation

(NEW YORK, NY - January 5, 2012) -- Barbara Slifka has been elected to the Board of Trustees of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation, it was announced today by William Mack, the Foundation's Chairman, and Jennifer Blei Stockman, its President. The election took place at the December 14 meeting of the Board of Trustees. "The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation is pleased to welcome Barbara Slifka to its Board of Trustees," commented Mr. Mack. "She is an enthusiastic and committed patron of the arts, and we look forward to working with her in her new role." Mrs. Stockman added, "Barbara Slifka has been actively involved with the Guggenheim for more than 20 years and has shown great commitment towards the museum?s education programming and permanent collection. We are excited to work with her on the Board."

A native of New York City, Mrs. Slifka is a former fashion editor at Harper's Bazaar, where she worked for more than 40 years. She is president of the Joseph and Sylvia Slifka Foundation, which has supported Guggenheim exhibitions including The Great Upheaval: Modern Art from the Guggenheim Collection, 1910-1918 (2011), Broken Forms: European Modernism from the Guggenheim Collection (2010-11), and Paris and the Avant-Garde: Modern Masters from the Guggenheim Collection (2010). She serves on the Boards of Trustees of the New York City Ballet, the Interfaith Center of New York, Publicolor, the Parrish Art Museum in Southampton, LongHouse Reserve in East Hampton, Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons (ARF), and the Long Island Chapter of the Nature Conservancy. She is a Director of the Halcyon Foundation, which is affiliated with the American Museum in Great Britain. She was a Trustee at Guild Hall from 1990 to 2010. Mrs. Slifka is also an Honorary Trustee of the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, and the American Federation of Arts.
