GENERAL

Q: I am a journalist. Can I gain entry to the museum with my ID or do I need a press card?

A: You can gain entry for you and one guest with valid ID that identifies your media outlet.

Q: I am a journalist from abroad. May I use my press credentials to gain entry to the museum?

A: Yes, with a valid ID that identifies your media outlet, you and a guest will gain entry to the museum.

Q: I notice long lines to enter the museum. Can media bypass the lines?

A: Yes, media can bypass the line and show their credentials at the membership desk in the lobby of the museum.

Q: As a member of the media, may I view exhibitions when the museum is closed to the public (Thursdays)?

A: The Guggenheim regularly holds media previews before each exhibition opens to the public. We can only accommodate special requests for viewing during off-hours on a case-by-case basis. Please contact pressoffice@guggenheim.org

Q: I am working on a feature article/broadcast story on the museum/one of your exhibitions/your collection/one of your principles. How do I obtain an interview with an appropriate person?

A: Please contact pressoffice@guggenheim.org.

Q: I am a journalist and I want to come to the opening tonight.

A: Please contact pressoffice@guggenheim.org.

PHOTOGRAPHY AND FILMING

Q: How do I obtain high-resolution images of works in current exhibitions or of the Guggenheim building interior and exterior?

A: Accredited media are permitted to download images of current exhibitions and of the building interior and exterior for fair usage from the Photo Service.

Q: Do I need a user ID and password to log onto the Photo Service?

A: Yes. To obtain the password, please contact pressoffice@guggenheim.org.

Q: May I take photographs in the museum?

A: Because the Guggenheim is a registered trademark, we do not allow photographing within the museum. Exceptions are made on occasion. Please contact pressoffice@guggenheim.org.

Q: I am with the broadcast media and am working on a broadcast story on the museum/one of your exhibitions/your collections/one of your principals. How do I obtain permission to shoot in the museum?

A: All filming of current exhibitions must be accompanied by a Media and Public Relations staff person. Please contact pressoffice@guggenheim.org.

Q: How do I obtain images of past exhibitions?

A: We can ONLY provide installation shots of old exhibitions, which can be obtained from Image Licensing. We cannot provide images of works from old shows, unless the work actually belongs to the Guggenheim. This is because someone else owns the rights and permissions to photographs of the work, and we are granted temporary rights to use images in conjunction with exhibition publicity. Once the exhibition closes, we lose the rights to provide images of the works in it. For more information, see Image Licensing.

Q: How do I obtain archival B-roll and archival photos? How do I obtain access to out-of-print catalogues or other scholarly publications?

A: Resources for obtaining Guggenheim images and publications are available on the Image Licensing page.

Q: Can I take photos or film in the museum for a book/television/feature film or for my own personal use?

A: For book photo requests, commercial film requests, including television and feature films, contact licensing@guggenheim.org. Because of the small size of our staff we cannot accommodate most shoots for personal use.

Q: How do I get permission to shoot footage in your museum for a documentary that is related/unrelated to the Guggenheim?

A: Information about filming permissions is available on the Location Shoots page.

Q: I would like a photo of an item/catalogue in your retail shop. How can I get one?

A: Please contact pressoffice@guggenheim.org.

COLLECTIONS

Q: I’d like to know if a specific work from the permanent collection is currently on display at the Guggenheim.

A: Visit the Collection Online to find out what is currently on view.

Q: I’d like to know if a particular work is in the Guggenheim's permanent collection.

A: The Collection Online has a searchable database of part of the Guggenheim's permanent collection, but not all. If you do not find what you are looking for, please see Image Licensing.

Q: How do I obtain a catalogue for a past, current, or future exhibition?

A: Please contact the Publications department at reprintrequest@guggenheim.org.

GUGGENHEIM TRAVEL

Q: Does the Guggenheim have in-house VIP tours of the museum available for purchase by both members and nonmembers?

A: In New York, the Development office organizes a wide range of events and programs for our various membership groups. These always include tours of each new exhibition. General members are given tours during our members’ party, and members who contribute at a higher level can attend various types of tours arranged outside of regular museum hours.

Tours are only available to nonmembers in the following circumstances:
Organizations and groups can arrange a group tour through Group Sales.

  • An individual can arrange a special tour through Group Sales, but we ask them to become a member at the Patron level and therefore make a minimum contribution of $1,750.
