Guggenheim Hosts All-Star Cast for Carrie Mae Weems Event

Carrie Mae Weems LIVE

From April 25 to 27, 2014, in conjunction with Carrie Mae Weems: Three Decades of Photography and Video, the Guggenheim will host Carrie Mae Weems LIVE: Past Tense/Future Perfect, a three-day performance-salon featuring Carrie Mae Weems and an all-star cast of artists, performers, and scholars. Centering on contemporary dance, film, literature, music, theater, and visual art, the program presents events ranging from artist talks to jazz performances, and all daytime programs are free with museum admission. Selected programs on Friday and Saturday will be livestreamed at guggenheim.org/live.

On Friday and Saturday evening, two ticketed programs, one featuring Jason Moran and The Bandwagon and one featuring Theaster Gates, Carrie Mae Weems, and the Geri Allen Trio, will be held after the museum closes. Tickets for these events can be purchased online or by calling the box office.

Weems will offer introductory remarks for the programs each day, and on Friday and Saturday, poet, playwright, and recording artist Carl Hancock Rux will join her as cohost. Poets Elizabeth Alexander and Aja Monet will punctuate the proceedings with readings.

See the calendar or download a brochure (PDF) for the list of events that will be a part of Carrie Mae Weems LIVE.
