Surrounded by soaring views in a raw industrial space atop 7 World Trade Center, over 500 guests celebrated the fourth Guggenheim International Gala on Monday, November 10, raising over $2.3 million for the museum. The event—featuring a live auction and sponsored in part by Christie’s and Deutsche Bank—honored artists from the current exhibition theanyspacewhatever, including Angela Bulloch, Maurizio Cattelan, Liam Gillick, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster, Douglas Gordon, Carsten Höller, Pierre Huyghe, Jorge Pardo, Philippe Parenno, and Rirkrit Tiravanija.
The band Brightblack Morning Light performed during a cocktail hour and auction preview before guests, including co-chairs Stephanie Seymour Brandt, Owen Wilson, and Guggenheim Foundation President Jennifer Stockman, dined from an artisanal menu provided by Olivier Cheng. The live auction, conducted by Christopher Burge of Christie's and concluding in a matter of minutes, saw many items, such as a wall piece by Anish Kapoor and a photograph by Marilyn Minter, going above their estimate. Funds raised will go to support exhibitions and programming at the museum.
