Guggenheim Forum

Guggenheim Forum Launches

On June 22, Guggenheim.org adds a new feature, Guggenheim Forum. The online series brings together experts from a variety of fields to discuss and debate topics related to major museum exhibitions, with the public invited to comment on the conversation and take part in live chats. The inaugural installment of the Forum, titled Between the Over- and Underdesigned, runs through July 2 and addresses the subject of how design can enhance or detract from everyday life.

 
Design It: Shelter Competition

Guggenheim and Google Launch Global Design Competition 

On the occasion of Frank Lloyd Wright’s birthday, June 8, the Guggenheim Museum and Google launched Design It: Shelter Competition, a global, online initiative that invites the public to use Google Earth and Google SketchUp to create and submit designs for virtual 3-D shelters for a location of their choice anywhere on Earth.

The Guggenheim Presents Two-Day Architecture Symposium

On the occasion of the exhibition Frank Lloyd Wright: From Within Outward, the seminal question “Now what architecture?” posed by Wright in his 1931 Kahn Lecture forms the basis for a two-day symposium drawing scholars, architects, designers, and cultural critics from around the world.

The Guggenheim exhibition catalogue Cai Guo-Qiang: I Want to Believe has won the 2008 George Wittenborn Memorial Book Award, which recognizes outstanding publications in visual arts and architecture.

Guggenheim Settles Litigation and Shares Key Findings

On January 31, 2009, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation settled litigation concerning its ownership of Pablo Picasso’s Le Moulin de la Galette. Given the extensive costs associated with prolonged litigation, the Guggenheim determined that agreeing to settle the case was the best and most fiscally prudent course of action to ensure that the painting would remain on view for the benefit of the public and scholars.

Guggenheim TV Spot Nominated for Emmy Award

A television spot for Richard Prince: Spiritual America, the exhibition on view at the Guggenheim from Sept. 28, 2007–Jan. 9, 2008, has been nominated for a New York Emmy Award in the Community/Public Service (PSAs) category.
