January 30–April 19, 2009

The Guggenheim invited Ann Hamilton, one of the exhibition artists in The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860–1989, to create a work to respond to the show’s themes. What she created was human carriage, a site-specific installation that descends the museum’s spiraling rotunda several times a day, filling the space with the faint sound of Tibetan cymbals she attached to the carriage.
