For my trail shelter location, I chose the John Muir Trail leading up to Half Dome, a popular hiking destination in California. The natural splitting of the granite rock inspired my original form; my goal was to create a design that interacted with the natural environment. The contrast between the thick body of the structure and the thin roof and floor begins to represent the surrounding nature.
