Ginkgo (official tree of Kumamoto City) leaf abstraction. Octagram (Ancient Japanese symbol for stronghold) grid. Cast in reinforced concrete, local limestone and coral aggregate (sandblasted/exposed). Ginkgo wood used throughout. Textured windowpanes. Cozy bowtie plan creates two areas (Rest and Study/Reading). Two button up screen (or canvas) walls according to climate. Structural geometry contrasts informality of the landscape/site while, materials, rich textures, and natural colors compliment.
