Journey Shelter
Designed by James Janke

Shelter location: United States

This shelter enhances a traveler’s journey. The site embodies the fusion of new and old: it is adjacent to a modern passenger railroad, and to the historic “Royal Road” connecting Mexico City to Santa Fe. Likewise, the shelter utilizes the ruins of an old adobe mill. The design encourages the journey: the east façade’s form appeals to the speed of the train and the entrance procession reveals shifting shadows.
