Alison Goddard is a correspondent for The Economist. She is the author of a forthcoming biography of Luc Hoffmann, an environmentalist and green philanthropist, and has degrees in physics and in politics, philosophy, and history. She lives in London with her husband, David Colling (who is not on Second Life), and their children.

Elizabeth Grosz is an Australian-born philosopher who teaches at Rutgers University in the Women's and Gender Studies Department. She has written widely on corporeality, temporality, and spatiality and has more recently turned her attention to rethinking art in relation to animal sexuality.

Ian Hacking is a philosopher, now retired from a chair at the Collège de France, Paris, and a University Professorship at the University of Toronto. He has published books on many topics, most but not all connected with the sciences. One with “reality” in the subtitle is Mad Travelers: Reflections on the Reality of Transient Mental Illnesses.

Douglas Hofstadter is College of Arts and Sciences Distinguished Professor at Indiana University, Bloomington. He has explored the mystery of “I”-ness in Gödel, Escher, Bach (winner of the 1980 Pulitzer Prize), The Mind’s I, and I Am a Strange Loop; translated works including Alexander Pushkin’s novel-in-verseEugene Onegin; and written on translation in books including Le Ton beau de Marot and Translator, Trader. His research, described in the book Fluid Concepts and Creative Analogies, focuses on analogy’s ubiquity in thought. {!jomcomment}
