Excerpt

Two years ago Mr. Justin K. Thannhauser overwhelmed our Trustees with the message that he was considering a bequest to our Museum of seventy-five paintings and drawings from his famous personal collection of works of art. Mr. Thannhauser, one of the most highly respected dealers in both the new and old world, has collected these works since youth. His first purchase was of a Picasso made while he was studying history of art in Paris. His father was a prominent art dealer of his day. Mr. Thannhauser is an art collector of extensive knowledge and superb taste. He is also a sensitive and perceptive gentleman whose aim it has been eventually to find a place in a sympathetic environment for these works of art which have been the companions of
his home.
