This exhibition presents works by 127 children aged six to twelve who participated in the educational program Learning Through Art in the 2012–13 academic year. Taught by artists Elssie Ansareo, Naia del Castillo, Ibon Garagarza, Maider López, and Jorge Rubio, the program supplements the primary school curriculum by using art as an educational tool. With an open structure encouraging discussions about art and the creative process, students explore a variety of topics in a more creative, personal way. With activities ranging from photography, painting, and sculpture to video, performance, and movement, the program lifts away the barriers between curricular disciplines, encouraging students to look at the world in new ways. Art becomes the tool to discover, explore, and understand reality, while simultaneously highlighting the value of individual expression and creative freedom.
