Preparing for Your Visit

What do you need to know before visiting the Guggenheim with your students?

After you have booked your tour, use the following materials in your classroom to prepare everyone for their visit.

View our curricular resource unit on the architecture of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum for more ideas and classroom materials.

What are the museum’s rules?

During your visit, please remember:

If you are taking students on a self-guided visit, download the guidelines for these tours and review them with your students and chaperones.

What will we see?

Before your trip, preview exhibitions that are currently on view and visit the collection online to search for works in the Guggenheim collection by artist, date, or medium.

What can I do in the classroom to prepare my students for their visit?

The more your students know in advance, the better their museum experience will be. To build excitement for your trip, please familiarize your students with the museum. Teacher resources and suggestions for how to connect our exhibitions to your classroom curriculum are available via the Arts Curriculum Online and Learning Through Art. Here you will find teacher guides, lesson plans, images of artworks, and guidelines for inquiry, the Guggenheim’s approach to looking at works of art with students.
