Multi-visit programs allow for deep thematic investigations of the museum’s exhibitions as they relate to students’ academic and personal lives. By exploring a given topic over several sessions, both at the museum and in the classroom, students build visual literacy, critical thinking, and language skills. Such collaborations also foster in students a more personal relationship with the museum and with art.
Programs are jointly planned by museum staff and teachers and/or administrators in order to ensure direct curricular ties and specific consideration of group needs.
First Impressions: Stories and Art at the Guggenheim
During this 3-part program, designed for the youngest of visitors, students make meaningful connections to art objects through the use of stories while fostering language, visual literacy, and critical-thinking skills. The program includes a planning meeting, pre- and post-visits in the classroom, and an interactive museum visit.
All programs can be adapted to support specific curriculum areas as well as to accommodate students with special needs.
Recommended for grades Pre-K–1.
