In 2007, the Guggenheim Museum engaged interactive filmmaker and collection artist, Grahame Weinbren, to work closely with its Curatorial and Education Departments in addressing three significant Kandinsky paintings in the Guggenheim’s collection from 1913. Investigating Kandinsky’s writings on abstraction, color theory and synesthesia, as well as exploring a special research component on eye-tracking, the film, Kandinsky: A Close Look (in progress 2008) presents how high definition technology and an artistic interpretation can provide viewers with a visual experience that will develop their own seeing and critical apparatus to become more informed and engaged viewers.
