Series Descriptions

Series 1. Artist Records, 1971-1990, 1.2 cubic ft.
Summary: Series 1. Artist Records includes correspondence between staff and artists, dealers, collectors, and institutions; artists' exhibition publications, announcements and public affairs materials; photographs and slides; press clippings; resumes; and artist biographies. It is organized into two subseries: A.) Individuals and B.) Locations. Each folder in subseries A.) Individuals contains records regarding a particular artist. Folders in subseries B.) Locations contain records on multiple artists from one location (a city, state, country, or continent). It is possible that many of these artist records were collected while Linda Shearer was conducting research for the 1981 Exxon National Exhibition.
Arrangement: Organized into two subseries: A.) Individuals and B.) Locations.
Series 2. Chronology Project, undated, .80 cubic ft.
Summary: Series 2. Chronology Project includes the research for and drafts of a chronology of events important to the art world in America, from 1944 to 1976. The chronology includes the dates of significant exhibitions, the establishment of art movements, the creation of important works of art, etc. It is possible that this chronology was created to accompany the 1976 exhibition, "Aspects of Postwar Painting in America." This, however, is unconfirmed.
Arrangement: Alphabetical. Chronology arranged chronologically.
Series 3. Exhibitions and Objects, 1976-1980, .30 cubic ft.
Summary: Series 2. Exhibitions and Objects contains records pertaining to the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum loans, and exhibitions curated by Linda Shearer. Records from the 1981 Exxon National Exhibition were largely created by guest curator Peter Frank. The records include inventory cards, research files, brochures, correspondence, and artist materials such as slides, photographs, and published documentation on the artists' work.
Arrangement: Alphabetical.
