Exhibition artist Carrie Mae Weems offers parting thoughts at the completion of Carrie Mae Weems LIVE: Past Present/Future Perfect.

Carrie Mae Weems is an artist who has long been acclaimed as one of the most eloquent and respected interpreters of African American experiences, and who continues to be an important influence for many young artists today. Her work has been featured in solo exhibitions organized by major institutions and included in several important international exhibitions. Weems’s numerous awards and honors include a Smithsonian Fellowship (1987); National Endowment for the Arts Visual Arts Grant (1994–95); and Medal of Arts from the U.S. State Department (2012), and she was named a 2013 MacArthur Fellow. Weems was born in Portland, Oregon, earned an MFA from the University of California, San Diego in 1984, and lives and works in New York.
