John Akomfrah and The Stuart Hall Project: At The Intersection of Blackness and Shifting Identities

As part of Carrie Mae Weems LIVE: Past Tense/Future Perfect, documentarian John Akomfrah speaks about his acclaimed film about the cultural theorist Stuart Hall, a founding figure of contemporary cultural studies whose influence on the intellectual life of the British post-war Left began soon after he emigrated from Jamaica in 1951.

John Akomfrah, OBE, is a director, theorist, and writer who is a seminal figure in Black British Cinema and a forerunner in digital cinematography. He directed Speak Like a Child (1998), wrote and directed The Nine Muses (2010), and directed The Stuart Hall Project (2013).
