Meet the Artist: Tayeba Begum Lipi
In this online video talk presented in conjunction with the Guggenheim UBS MAP exhibition No Country: Contemporary Art for South and Southeast Asia, exhibition artist Tayeba Begum Lipi discusses her artistic development with S. Alice Mong, Executive Director, Asia Society Hong Kong Center. No Country is on view at the Asia Society Hong Kong Center through February 16, 2014.
Tayeba Begum Lipi makes paintings, prints, installations, and videos. She cofounded the Britto Arts Trust, Bangladesh’s first artist-run alternative arts platform, which has extended its reach beyond Bangladesh through exhibitions, residencies, talks, collaborations, and exchanges. Lipi’s work Love Bed (2012), acquired for the Guggenheim’s collection, addresses themes of female identity and references the double bind of political and gender-specific violence.
