Associate Director of Education and Community Engagement, Abu Dhabi Project
Rose Demir is Associate Director of Education and Community Engagement, Abu Dhabi Project. Prior to joining the Guggenheim, Ms. Demir served as Associate Curator for Education at the Cantor Arts Center at Stanford University where her responsibilities included creating public programs, advising the docent program, and community engagement. She was the managing curator for the Jameel Prize: Art Inspired by the Islamic Tradition, a contemporary art exhibition organized by the Victoria and Albert Museum, London, which made its U.S. premier at Stanford University in 2012. Demir launched her international career at the Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, Turkey, where she assisted the conservation team with artifacts from a late Bronze Age shipwreck. She was also a Peace Corps volunteer in Morocco, where she consulted artisans who continue to practice Islamic art traditions and also organized Art 4 Peace, an exhibition fundraiser to support teaching art and business practices to at-risk women. Prior to her work abroad, she was the Curator of Education at the San Antonio Museum of Art, where she organized the museum's first Islamic art exhibition, Perished Moment and Its Occupant, as well as worked on a major outreach initiative to diversify the museum’s audience and raise public awareness and visibility through programs, partnerships, and exhibitions. She holds an MA in art history and received a fellowship to participate in the Smithsonian Center for Education and Museum Studies' Diversity, Leadership, and Museums Seminar in Washington, D.C.
