Assistant Curator of Asian Art

Guggenheim curator since 2007

Sandhini Poddar joined the Guggenheim Museum in April 2007 as the institution’s first Assistant Curator of Asian Art, part of the museum’s Asian Art Initiative. She is the curator for The Deutsche Bank Series at the Guggenheim: Anish Kapoor: Memory, a commissioned project for the Deutsche Guggenheim, Berlin, that is currently on view at the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. Poddar served as the assistant curator for Cai Guo-Qiang: I Want to Believe and the The Third Mind: American Artists Contemplate Asia, 1860–1989, and was a jury member for the 2008 Hugo Boss Prize. She graduated with a master's degree in Visual Arts Administration from the Steinhardt School of Education, New York University, and has additional master's degrees in Indian, Islamic, and South East Asian art history and aesthetics from Mumbai University, India. Poddar is currently working on the upcoming exhibition Being Singular Plural: Moving Images from India, scheduled to open at Deutsche Guggenheim on June 26, 2010.
