Themes & Variations. Script and Space

October 15, 2011–January 2, 2012

This exhibition, the third in a series curated by Luca Massimo Barbero for the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, explores the museum’s holdings of postwar art thematically, revealing connections, affinities, and new interpretations. Script ranges from newspaper collages in Cubism and Futurism to the enigmatic marks typical of the work of Dadamaino and Riccardo De Marchi. Space begins with an image of the heavens by Rufino Tamayo and includes works by Arthur Duff, François Morellet, and Mario Negro. The exhibition, which juxtaposes art from earlier in the 20th century with more contemporary works and includes loans from other collections, closes with an homage to Gastone Novelli (1925–1968).
