U.S. State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs
The official U.S. representation at the 52nd Venice Biennale is organized by the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and is presented by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State. Curated by Nancy Spector, the chief curator of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the U.S. commissioner for the 52nd biennale, the exhibition Felix Gonzalez-Torres: America is on view in the Giardini della Biennale, Venice, Italy, from June 10 through November 21, 2007.
Gonzalez-Torres was selected to represent the United States as the result of an open competition overseen by the Federal Advisory Committee on International Exhibitions (FACIE) and the U.S. State Department's Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA). A jury of museum curators and directors reviewed all submitted proposals and chose Gonzalez-Torres because of the continued significance of his work today.
