Internships
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum offers a variety of internships for undergraduates, recent graduates, and graduate students in art history, administration, conservation, education, and related fields.
The objective of the internship program is to offer practical museum training experience to individuals interested in pursuing careers in the arts and museum field. Interns gain a general knowledge and broad understanding of how a particular department functions within the context of a major museum as well as specific skills related to a particular department's activities. Interns are assigned to a department based on their academic background, professional skills, interests, and career goals. Interns participate in the ongoing work of the department and complete specific projects or portions of larger departmental initiatives.
Potential internships are available in the following departments: Archives and Library Management, Art Services and Preparation, Conservation, Curatorial, Development, Director’s Office, Education (Adult Interpretive Programs, School Programs, New Media), Exhibition Design, Exhibition Management, Graphic Design, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal, Marketing, Membership, Photography, Public Affairs, Publications, Registrar, Special Projects, Special Events, or Visitor Services.

Academic Year Internships
Intended for upper-level college students, recent graduates, and graduate students, unpaid volunteer internships are available throughout the academic year on a full- or part-time basis. National internships are 6 months, while international are limited to 3 months (unless the international applicant wishes to provide their own J1 visa, in which case international internships may exceed three months). A minimum commitment of three months, 15 hours a week is required. The fall/spring internship program corresponds to the academic semester, and runs from mid-September through mid-April. Periodic field trips to cultural institutions, galleries, and auction houses, as well as lectures by Museum staff, are offered weekly during the fall/spring semester.
Summer Internships
This program is open to third- and fourth-year undergraduates, recent graduates, and graduate students in all areas of museum work. The program runs from mid-May through mid-August and requires a full time, five days a week commitment. Every other week the museum offers a Museum Culture Seminar Program which includes: 1) field trips to sites such as auction houses, galleries, corporate collections, artists' studios, and other museums; 2) discussions with museum staff from a range of museum departments; and 3) discussions of museum-related issues and publications. Attendance at all programming is required.
